Abstract

Effects of various combinations of photoperiod and temperature (NL-NT, LD 15:9 – 280C, NL – 280C and LD 15:9 - NT) were studied on the ovary and gonadotropic cells of the pituitary gland during resting phase of reproductive cycle in Channa punctatus. Long photoperiod-warm temperature regime (LD 15:9 – 280C) and warm temperature (NL – 280C) were found to be more effective for the ovarian maturation. The gonadotropic cells also show secretory activity in association with the ovarian development and maturation.
