Effect of certain yogic practices on blood sugar and anxiety levels of diabetes mellitus patients

Diabetes mellitus has gradually acquired the status of an epidemic and is adversely affecting the life of a large section of population. Those who are dependent on continuous medication have to face the side effects of these medicines. There are even diabetic patients who are unable to afford the rising costs of medicines. Yoga is emerging as a remedy for many disorders including diabetes but lack of scientific evidence creates many suspicions. It is necessary to test the extent to which certain yogic practices suggested in our ancient literature work on this disease. This may reduce the dependence of many people on drugs for controlling diabetes mellitus. The present investigation is aimed at finding out the effects of certain yogic practices on the blood sugar and anxiety level of 50 diabetic patients. The experiment revealed that the patients of experimental group had decreased sugar and anxiety levels than that of control group.
